Battery return with GRS

In accordance with the Battery Act (BattG), anyone who sells batteries, operates treatment facilities for old devices and old vehicles, public waste disposal providers and voluntary take-back centres are required to hand over spent device batteries to a take-back scheme. All take-back schemes are required to offer take-back and collection centres the option of free collection of spent device batteries that consumers have taken to them.

GRS take-back scheme

Following the statutory relinquishment of its legal status as an established joint take-back scheme and the associated mandate for the basic statutory disposal of waste device batteries, Stiftung GRS Batterien has been approved and active as a manufacturer’s own take-back scheme since 6 January 2020.

In accordance with its statutes, the non-profit Stiftung GRS Batterien offers GRS Basic (a basic scheme), which provides a good take-back scheme especially for small and medium-sized distributors of device batteries. Stiftung GRS Batterien assumes the legally prescribed product responsibility for its customers, spanning registration and take-back to the recycling of spent batteries.
